3/4 Span Traditional Greenhouse in Seaside Location
The greenhouse is in a long and narrow garden of a very old fishermans cottage dating from the 1640’s. Flooding in the cottage and garden was a major problem until the owners put in extensive drainage. This made the ground unstable so when the greenhouse was put in the foundations had to be built up. The advantage of this is that having the greenhouse raised above the level of the garden has made it a real feature. The garden is used for growing asparagus, broad beans, garlic, spinach, cabbage and chard, with an area for cut flowers. The back wall of the greenhouse faces east and warms up quickly in the morning sun – really heating up the greenhouse. It’s used for propagating and over-wintering and also provides a wonderful place to sit and relax. The customer finds the combination of the benches, heated mat, internal reservoir and coldframes make the ideal tools for successful propagation. The garden will be open for the NGS during 2010
