'Chelsea and beyond......'
Andy Sturgeon is known for his innovative contemporary gardens particularly those exhibited at Chelsea Flower Show. Here he gives us insight into some of his show gardens and private commissions and explains the inspiration, thought process and metaphorical approach to his work which includes recent forrays into classical and traditional territory. | Date of Article:10/06/2010 Gardening Myths
Whether you know a lot about gardening or are a novice you should find this talk fascinating. Ken will be exploring many gardening myths including companion planting, does it work and why does it work; planting by the moon - how and why; how good are 'superfoods' and are there better alternatives.
Dr Thompson has played a significant role as a senior lecturer in plant ecology at Sheffield University for over 20 years where the science of gardening has become of great interest to him. He has written numerous books including four popular gardening books, most recently 'No Nettles Required', 'Compost' and 'The Book of Weeds'. He acts as a consultant for many professional horticultural bodies including the RHS - in fact he is featured in the June issue of The Garden magazine.
Ken likes to modestly say that his career has so far been marked by a complete failure to win any prizes or awards of any kind - it will definitely be an entertaining talk! | Date of Article:03/06/2010 Chelsea Flower Show 2010
Our finished stand at Chelsea Flower Show and what a great show it was! Apart from the rain on saturday making a very soggy plant sale, everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope we showed our visitors a positive taster of what we have to offer. See more pictures in the gallery section. | Date of Article:18/05/2010 On site at last!
At last on Friday the 7th May, we went on site to start the construction of our stand for this years Chelsea Flower Show. We are extremely pleased to be using for the 3rd year running, the wonderful Deacon Brothers Builders.
John, Mike and Paul have made our Chelsea build ups - previously fraught and tense times - a positive joy to be a part of. You can see their impact on our first 48 hours on site!
One week later and they have finished - and even tidied up after themselves! It is now up to us to do the finshing touches, and Richard, Nick and George from Taylor Tripp will be joining us on Thursday to start creating the garden.
If you want to see more progress, you can see it unfold on www.flickr.com/alitex or to hear about latest on site happenings by following us on www.twitter.com/alitex
