Living Under Glass

Careful consideration of the actual use of the conservatory will help to determine the best design and layout, as well as the internal style, fixtures and fittings that will make the room both practical and enjoyable to use. Will you use it more in the morning or evening? As a quiet private retreat, or as an entertaining space?

You will probably be restricted in the location of the conservatory in relation to the house. But, if it is to be a space for eating and entertaining, close proximity to the kitchen would be desirable. If that isn’t possible then you may wish to include storage, counter space and a sink with waste and water supplies to prevent endless trips to and from the kitchen.

Time spent now thinking through the possibilities and layouts will be well worth it when you come to enjoy living in your conservatory.

"The conservatory has completely transformed our house – we are spending all our time in there. The thought that we do not have to repaint it for decades is such a bonus. Although our house is Grade II listed and in a conservation area, the planners were happy that the timber appearance did not compromise the Georgian architecture. We just wish we had done it sooner.”
