This greenhouse for a private client forms a the centrepiece in an ornamental garden with an unusual turret roof feature.

Client brief

To transform a blank canvas garden into a working kitchen garden, including a greenhouse.

Constraints

Alitex sought planning on behalf of the client as part of a major refurbishment of the property and grounds.

Final Design

The final design evolved from a freestanding to a hexagonal glasshouse. The design team introduced columns to support the structural ring beam. By designing the greenhouse with a low eaves height in the traditional manner, the height of the greenhouse has been kept to a minimum, ensuring the structure remained subordinate to the main dwelling and surrounding area.

Additional Features

The benching and floor grids were specially commissioned to fit the facets of the structure. The layout of the central planter and the grids provide excellent ergonomics within the greenhouse. The venting was designed into the turret and cold frames were fitted to four of the facets.

Alitex involvement

Alitex were completely involved in the supply and installation, working in partnership with the client’s garden designer, James Alexander-Sinclair.
