Our client Thrive, a small national charity that uses gardening to change lives, was in the process of a £839k redevelopment to increase the range of gardening opportunities and the number of Londoners able to benefit from attending the project.

A key element in the re-development was production capacity; the ability to grow stock for three gardens as well as retail activities. They didn’t just want an industrial production unit; they wanted something which would reflect the heritage of their site, in one of London’s finest Victorian parks.

An Alitex bespoke greenhouse was the answer. After discussing the plans with Thrive, the final design needed accessories to enhance the growing experience for the users. The client requested cold frames either side of the lobby, offering the perfect space for overwintering and hardening off plants, as well as an aspirated screen. The Alitex bespoke glasshouse has enabled them to do all these things. We were proud to work alongside Thrive on the growing of our show flowers for RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with the design engineers at Alitex to realise my ideas. As an engineer myself I felt we were speaking the same language and I found the Alitex engineers receptive to innovation, going on to improve upon the idea. I have been delighted with what we have achieved.
